Apostate Verity Controls
These are the controls for the free web demo (build v0.1.00), confirmed from the game's own opening tutorial. Apostate Verity supports both keyboard and a gamepad out of the box.
Keyboard controls (web demo defaults)
| Action | Key |
|---|---|
| Move (left / right) | A / D (W and S are also bound) |
| Jump | K |
| Dodge / roll | L |
| Attack | J (the action keys sit in a J / K / L row next to each other) |
| Interact / confirm | Context prompts appear on-screen; Enter confirms menus |
The tutorial banner at the start of the demo explicitly shows Move (W A S D), Jump (K) and Dodge (L). Attack and interact prompts surface as you reach them, with attack on the adjacent J key. If a key feels off, see remapping below.
Gamepad controls
A controller works natively. The tutorial shows the left stick for movement and face buttons for jump and dodge, so you can play the whole demo on a pad. Plug it in before launching, and if the browser doesn't detect it, press a button once to wake it up.
Can I remap the controls?
The browser web demo uses the fixed layout above and does not support key rebinding. If you want to remap keys, play the downloadable Windows demo instead — it includes a settings menu with rebinding and more options. Both versions are free and official from KitDa Games.
Control tips for a Souls-like
- Dodge (L) is your lifeline. Rolling through an attack at the right moment beats trying to out-run it. Learn each enemy's timing.
- Don't mash attack (J). Recovery frames leave you open. Hit, then reposition or dodge.
- Use the bonfire. The demo opens at a campfire-style checkpoint — your safe point to reset before pushing forward.
- A gamepad is more comfortable for the dodge-and-attack rhythm than keyboard, if you have one.
